A complete brand creation for an established interior designer and retailer. Representing the timeless taste and expertise of Basalt, the identity needed to be progressive and eye-catching while still being bold and established.

The Client

As one of the top interior designers on California's Central Coast, Cherisse Sweeney has over 20 years of design experience. Her innate talent has taken her business to new heights working with clients in residential, commercial, and hospitality as well as curate choice furnishings and home goods in her downtown retail showroom.

The Challenge

In creating a brand from scratch, we needed to extract what value that had been built over years while still looking ahead with the new brand. Needing to reflect the array of talent and aesthetic, while still be appealing to the target audience.

The Strategy

To deliberately position this brand to accomodate for both sides of the business (interior design services and retail) without devaluing the client’s expertise. By creating a brand that envelopes the general essence of the design style while still allowing specific interior projects to show their own design direction reflects well for both sides of the business. This then allowed the retail storefront to be the curated experience for a buyer to enjoy the curated collections of the designers while opening the opportunity for them to inquire about interior design services.

The Design

The minimalistic approach to the identity’s design is focused on fortifying the developed strategy but also creating visual interest through the unique letter formatting. The combination of these two elements empowers the brand’s identity to be novel yet not dominate the portfolio pieces allowing each interior project to speak to their own aesthetic. While the identity has cues of Nordic-inspired style, the design is clean and allows plenty of room to breathe, encouraging the influence of other elements whether natural or deliberate.
